May/June 2013 Horizons Available

The May/June 2013 issue of Horizons is now online (17 MB PDF, 56 pages at www.aiaahouston.org/newsletter, 8 MB low resolution PDF file).  Horizons is the newsletter of the Houston Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The cover story is, “The Biggest Myth about the First Moon Landing” by Paul Fjeld, space artist, including an original acrylic painting for our cover illustration. This issue also contains an article by Harold Larson on the Team America Rocketry Challenge, a synopsis of our May 2013 Annual Technical Symposium by Dr. Steven E. Everett,  and two articles by Daniel R. Adamo, astrodynamics consultant, “Highway in the Sky (Speed Limit 7.7 km/s)” and “Rendezvous Endgame.” Our new partnership with the JSC Astronomical Society continues in this issue with an article about how to make your own astronomer’s chair. This issue concludes with part 6 of 8 from Man Will Conquer Space Soon! This is our page by page high resolution reprint (28 MB PDF available as a separate file) of the 1952-1954 Collier’s series of magazine articles from a team led by Wernher von Braun.

March/April 2013 Horizons Available

The March / April 2013 issue of Horizons is now online. Horizons is the newsletter of the Houston Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The cover story is a report from the Woodlands about the 44th Annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference by Dr. Larry Friesen, Wes Kelly and Shen Ge. This issue contains three articles by Daniel R. Adamo, astrodynamics consultant. First: Near-Earth Objects in Earth-Like Orbits. Second: The “Horseshoe” Orbit of Near-Earth Object 2013 BS45. Third: Chelybinsk Bolide Trajectory Reconstruction. The JSC Astronomical Society starts a newsletter partnership in this issue. This issue concludes with part 5 of 8 from Man Will Conquer Space Soon! This is the 1952-1954 Collier’s series of magazine articles from a team led by Wernher von Braun. Low resolution and high resolution PDFs are available.

AIAA Dinner Meeting & Awards Banquet

Save the date for AIAA Houston Section as they welcome Dr. Harold White for his talk on Warp Field Physics at the Gilruth Center on the evening of June 13th. Enjoy dinner and the company of friends and colleagues as we honor AIAA Houston members and learn about Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel from Dr. White of Johnson Space Center.
